Boris Johnson’s government is furious with China’s handling of the CCP Virus (Wuhan coronavirus), warning that the Communist regime will face a “reckoning” and risk becoming a “pariah state” once the pandemic is over.
The top UK officials are angered by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) over its misinformation blitz surrounding the virus—in particular its unfounded claim that the U.S. Army had brought the virus to Wuhan, China—and its attempts to exploit the pandemic for economic purpose and atrocious animal rights record, the Daily Mail on Sunday reported.
The newspaper said scientists have warned Johnson, who tested positive for the CCP Virus last week, that China could have downplayed its number of confirmed cases “by a factor of 15 to 40 times.” China had reported 81,470 confirmed cases and 3,304 deaths as of March 29.
Officials also believe Chinese regime is attempting to expand its economic power through its “predatory offers of help” to other countries across the globe which are struggling to combat the pandemic.
“There is a disgusting disinformation campaign going on and it is unacceptable. They [the Chinese regime] know they have got this badly wrong and rather than owning it they are spreading lies,” one official told the press.
Another official said: ‘There has to be a reckoning when this is over.’ While another added: “The anger goes right to the top.”
The newspaper adds that UK officials are demanding an “urgent review” of Britain’s relationship with Beijing and are pressing Johnson to reverse the deal with Chinese technology giant Huawei to build the UK’s 5G network.
One Cabinet minister quoted by the Mail on Sunday said, “We can’t stand by and allow the Chinese state’s desire for secrecy to ruin the world’s economy and then come back like nothing has happened. We’re allowing companies like Huawei not just into our economy, but to be a crucial part of our infrastructure.”
“This needs to be reviewed urgently, as does any strategically important infrastructure that relies on Chinese supply chains.” the minister added.
In January, Johnson angered the Trump administration by giving Huawei, a company that has been mostly banned from doing business in the United States over national security concerns, a significant role in building the UK’s 5G network. U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned that China is the “threat of our times” when he met Johnson at that time.
“The Chinese Communist Party presents the central threat of our times. It is an enormous economy to which the American economy is deeply tied,” Pompeo said.
“We think putting Huawei anywhere in your system is very very difficult to mitigate and therefore not worth the candle,” he added.
In the UK there are more than 19,000 confirmed cases of the CCP Virus and at least 1,288 people have died as of Sunday, March 29. Johnson has written to all UK households saying that the crisis will get worse before it gets better and he is prepared to tighten the nation’s lockdown.
