After plunging off a swing hanging on the edge of a 6,300-foot precipice in Russia, two women incredibly escaped death with minor injuries.
The terrifying moment captured in footage on Wednesday, July 14, has gone viral on social media. As the chain broke and the women tumbled over the edge, bystanders screamed in horror.
Fortunately, their fall was broken by a little wooden platform just below the cliff edge, which is certain to have saved their lives. Apart from shock, the ladies survived with a few scrapes and bruises.
“The women got scared and sustained scratches, but neither of them suffered serious injuries,” a law enforcement source said in a statement obtained by the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper.
“It is chilling to imagine what could have happened if they slipped when the swings were at a maximum height,” the source continued.
When a cable holding the chair cracked, sending the pair plunging over the cliff edge, they were recklessly swinging over Sulak Canyon in the Russian Republic of Dagestan. It is a daredevil activity that has become popular with tourists.
While The Ministry of Tourism in Dagestan reported that the swing “did not meet safety standards” and “as a result, the young women fell off the swing seat.” Police officers have initiated an examination into how the massive safety lapse happened.
Necessary assessments to guarantee that nothing poses a future threat to lives and health have already been conducted by law enforcement authorities and other agencies. According to reports, all swings along the cliff’s edge should be banned; the local Kazbekovsky council has decided.
A number of social media users left their comments on this horrific incident.
“No safety belt or bar? That’s gonna be an issue!”, one Twitter user commented. “If it’s this unsafe why they have kept the swing at such a dangerous place!?”, asked another one.
“People want adventure so much that they can risk their lives for it….these ladies must have learnt their lesson…..life is very precious friends…think about ur loved ones before entering into such act.” said Twitter user @RajaniShetty13.
It was reported that the Sulak gorge is the Europe’s deepest canyon and deeper than the Grand Canyon in the United States.
