Although officials in China will deny its existence, and many people worldwide have never heard of it, China’s 610 Office was created in 1999 on June 10—hence its name—for one purpose only. And that aim was and still is, to eliminate practitioners of Falun Gong, an ancient Chinese traditional spiritual practice based on the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance, which at the time was practiced by millions in China and banned in 1999 by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

The media barely mentions the 610 Office by name, in contrast to some Chinese lawyers who compare its activities to Nazi Germany’s Gestapo. Most people are unaware of its existence and also of the evil means it uses to persecute the group of gentle meditators who are simply trying to become better people.

Former Communist Party head Jiang Zemin ordered elite cadres one month before he officially banned Falun Gong, that they were to “form battle strategies,” and “get fully prepared for the work of disintegrating [Falun Gong],” reports Faluninfo.org.

The evil of the 610 Office

Jiang gave the 610 Office increasingly more power, in violation of Article 5 of China’s Constitution. Most of the judges in China belonged to the CCP, which furthered his cause.
And for what purpose was the persecution of Falun Gong instigated? Solely because the crazed leader was consumed with jealousy at the sheer number of people wanting to join the practice, including many high-level cadres from the Party. The number doing the exercises and following the practice principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance in China is believed to have reached 100 million—more than the number of Party members.

Jiang instructed his henchmen to use “every means necessary” to eliminate them, and opened the gates to hell, with extreme torture used by the 610 officers becoming their trademark.

The persecution intensified, and alongside it so did Falun Gong practitioners resolve not to give in to their demands and abandon their faith, despite the sheer terror and pain that their decision caused.

Falun Gong a peaceful meditation and way of life
The practice, with Buddhist and Daoist traditions, was first introduced to the public in the early ’90s by Mr. Li Hongzhi. Many people experienced great health benefits, and many miraculously recovered from serious illnesses simply by doing the five simple exercises daily and adhering to the principles of the practice. Consequently, most were reluctant to stop despite the Party ban.

The response from Falun Gong practitioners to the violent campaign against them has been to focus on nonviolent means, such as informing politicians, the police, and public about the practice, and the human rights violations committed against them. They have been supported in recent years by nonpractitioners, human rights lawyers, friends, and family, with support around the world increasing.

Common tactics used under the instruction of the 610 Office were force-feeding adherents of the practice with human excrement, sleep-deprivation for days on end, shocks to several sensitive parts of the body simultaneously with high-voltage cattle prods, and extremely widespread rape and sexual abuse and other unmentionable horrors.

Thousands of practitioners have been sentenced to forced labor camps, detention centers, and brainwashing centers without any court appearances, and untold numbers have died.

Although numbers of the 610 office officials might appear to be small in many cities, the power they wield is mighty, as they have great influence over other Party members and government institutions.

All administrative levels under the CCP’s Central Committee, as well as big organizations, work units, companies, and universities, had departments created that were closely tied to Public Security Bureau offices, political/legal committees, or local Party committees. They are all under direction of the 610 Office that is able to manipulate the criminal justice system.

Scheme to persuade officials to carry out atrocities

Many millions of innocent people have been affected, some losing their livelihoods, thrown into jail, tortured, or killed for their organs, (see Key Statistics for more details). It was all done under the pretext that the Party ruled Falun Gong forbidden. If local officials were reluctant to carry out such punishments on their neighbors, an incentive scheme was introduced to persuade them to co-operate.

Areas were delegated certain quotas for the number of arrests of Falun Gong practitioners, and bonuses were handed out to those who worked hard at keeping numbers up.
If a certain area didn’t meet the required number, officials would be threatened with demotion or loss of employment. The more Falun Gong practitioners that were arrested, the more bonuses would be handed out. It was a sickening scheme and paid off as greed and lust for blood took over officials who were corrupted and swept up in the net.

The 610 Office had widespread influence and was able to organize the arrest of more than five thousand Falun Gong practitioners in Changchun in March 2002.
Tianjin’s central 610 branch, for instance, employs 50–60 staff who can directly control the city’s 30,000-strong police force, with one 610 officer often supervising over 100 ordinary policemen, according to the city’s former 610 operative Hao Fengjun reports Faluninfo.

Beijing human rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng spoke out about the abuses occurring in Northeastern China against Falun Gong after an investigation into the abuse in 2005.

“The immoral act that has shaken my soul most is the 610 Office and policeman’s regular practice of assaulting women’s genitals,” he said. “Of those persecuted, almost every woman’s genitals and breasts and every man’s private parts have been sexually assaulted in a most vulgar fashion. Almost all who have been persecuted, be they male or female, were stripped naked before being tortured.”

The large scale persecution is ongoing

There are still tens of millions who practice Falun Gong in China, they risk their very lives to follow something that is pure and noble.

Jiang, the 610 Office, and those who followed orders, and were paid to torture, rape, and kill innocent people, will be held accountable.

Falun Gong practitioners around the world hold peaceful protests and candlelight vigils to alert the world to the ongoing persecution and the nature of the CCP.

Jiang Zemin relinquished his position as the leader in 2003, but many of his cronies and henchmen are still in power, having achieved high-rank thanks to their sadistic persistence in torturing and killing practitioners of Falun Gong.

Xi Jinping became head of the CCP in 2012 and has not indicated if he will put an end to the persecution, although investigations have targeted corruption of many officials within the Party. Head of the 610 Office Li Dongsheng was purged and imprisoned in 2016 for 15 years on charges of corruption, and the former security czar Zhou Yongkang has been given a life sentence for corruption charges including bribery, abuse of power ,and leaking state secrets. Although both are responsible for crimes against Falun Gong, they have not been punished for them, instead, they have been jailed for corruption.

Many thousands of Party officials have met with retribution for their role in the persecution, although most are convicted of other crimes. There are still many 610 officials continuing with the persecution, fattening their wallets as the noose tightens.

Freedom House independently verified 933 cases of Falun Gong adherents sentenced to prison terms of up to 12 years between Jan. 1, 2013, and June 1, 2016, often for exercising their right to freedom of expression in addition to freedom of religion.

Evidence is available that forced removal of organs from Falun Gong practitioners for sale in transplant operations has occurred on a large scale and may be continuing.

The movement to quit the CCP, known in Chinese as Tuidang, arose in 2004, and to date, more than 357 million Communist Party members have renounced the Party, as a peaceful way to dissolve something spawned by the devil.
