In an update on the BBC, British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt spoke with reporters addressing the situation involving the two vessels that Iran seized. He said, “We are not looking at military options. We are looking at a diplomatic way to resolve this situation but we are very clear that it must be resolved.”The two vessels involved, the first known as the Stena Impero a British vessel which was surrounded by four vessels and a helicopter, 23 crew on board with 23 personnel on board and was “heading north toward Iran” said Hunt.
The second, a Liberian-flagged British-operated vessel known as the Mesdar was bordered by armed guards but is now free to continue on its journey, according to the BBC. The operator of the Mesdar said communication had been re-established with the vessel after it was boarded by armed guards at around 12:30 p.m. on Friday and that its crew was “safe and well,” according to the BBC.
President Trump, gave his remarks at the White House after Jeremy Hunt had confirmed that Iran had seized the vessels. The president said he thinks the standoff with Tehran will eventually work out “very nicely.”
It was the latest escalation of tension in the strategic waterway that has become a flashpoint between Tehran and the West. President Trump said “Iran is showing their colors” with the seizures and he thinks that the standoff with Tehran will eventually work out “very nicely.” The president said he has many people involved in the situation, “We’ll see what happens. But I have many people involved and Iran is going to work out very nicely. Iran is showing its colors. It’s going to work out very nicely.”
The president went on to say Iran is in big trouble and their economy is crashing. He said they’re trying to bring soldiers back home because they can’t pay them. A lot of bad things are happening to them. And it’s very easy to straighten out or it’s very easy for us to make it a lot worse.
