Two women were sentenced to 5 years in prison in China just for possessing books of Falun Gong (also known as Falun Dafa). Falun Gong is an ancient spiritual discipline of the Buddha school, which the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has systematically banned and persecuted for more than 20 years.
As reported by Bitter Winter, Cao Qian, a 57-year-old woman from the Chinese city of Xiaoyi, Shanxi Province, had been arrested on May 28, 2020, for having Falun Dafa books and articles in her home. She was sentenced to 5 years in prison.
Cao was reportedly sentenced on Jan. 11, 2021, by the Wenshui County People’s Court, and upon appeal, the decision was upheld on May 27, 2021, by the Intermediate People’s Court of Lüliang City, Shanxi.
The same fate befell another woman named Jang Baolian, who had been in charge of binding and storing the books Cao Qian had downloaded from the internet. The books were shared with interested people close to her, circumventing the “Great Firewall” set up by the CCP, which blocks certain websites in China, including Google and the social networks Facebook, Twitter.
Falun Dafa is a spiritual discipline of the Buddha School based on the principles of Truth-Benevolence-Tolerance that, in addition to teaching its practitioners to conduct themselves following these principles, also features a series of gentle exercises and meditation to improve the body’s energy.
According to Bitter Winter, the two women were previously illegally detained for practicing Falun Dafa. Jang Baolian was arrested first in 2002 and then in 2009, during a CCP anti-Falun Gong operation, where Cao Qian was also arrested.
CCP police testified that Cao and Jang had 594 Falun Gong books and articles in their possession and had more files on their computers. They were also accused of providing Falun Gong material to other practitioners of the Buddha School discipline.
The convictions were carried out under Article 300 of the Chinese Criminal Code for “using a Xie Jiao to undermine the enforcement of the law.”
Xie jiao is the term used by the Marxist CCP to label banned religious movements, which it sees as a threat to its power and control. Falun Dafa is among the beliefs that the CCP considers Xie Jiao and has been trying to eradicate for 22 years.
When Falun Dafa began to be taught in China in 1992, it quickly gained popularity for its spiritual, physical, and mental health benefits. At the time, millions of Chinese could be seen in parks practicing its exercises.
By 1999, when the number of Falun Dafa adherents surpassed the CCP membership, and because of the contrast between the discipline’s moral teachings and Communist doctrine, then Communist Party leader Jiang Zemin launched a campaign of persecution against the 100 million practitioners in mainland China, which continues to this day.
As one Falun Dafa practitioner told Bitter Winter, “the words ‘undermine the enforcement of the law’ are in the law and in court decisions just to persuade the populace that we do something terrible.'”
For the CCP, “using a Xie Jiao means practicing in a park, telling your neighbor about Falun Gong, keeping books at home, everything,” he added.
Living under CCP-imposed censorship
It seems absurd that people in China are sentenced to jail for possessing reading material available on the Internet to the free world. But under Chinese communism, people risk even their own lives in circumventing the regime’s censorship.
The Chinese “Great Firewall,” operational since 2006, was devised for the sole purpose of censoring any kind of information unfavorable to the communist regime. In addition, under the orders of the CCP, a large number of spies are in charge of notifying any unusual behavior on the Internet of the groups they consider “sensitive,” through total surveillance of these groups.
Increased persecution of Falun Dafa during the CCP Virus pandemic
The report claims that during the pandemic, the persecution of Falun Gong in China intensified because the CCP is annoyed by the good repercussions that the “Nine True Words,” taken from this spiritual discipline of the Buddha School, had on the people.
According to a scientific study conducted by two researchers in late 2020, they found that 72% of patients infected with COVID-19 (CCP Virus) fully recovered after regularly reciting what the study’s co-author, Swiss physician Yuhong Dong, called “the nine true words.” They are, “Falun Dafa Hao, Zhen-Shan-Ren Hao” (法輪 大法 好, 真善忍 好), the English translation of which is “Falun Dafa is good” and “Truth-Benevolence-Tolerance is good.”
“Falun Gong’s high-energy field can also translate into enhanced immunity,” Dong said. “Once this high-energy is transferred, it can help the person strengthen the anti-viral ability of his immune system, thereby cleansing the virus from the patient’s body,” he added.
“Many Falun Gong practitioners have personally experienced this strong, high-energy field, which can translate into extraordinary healing effects,” explained the scientist.
