According to VOA, the public in China have noticed that, in 2021, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has increased its control of free speech to unprecedented levels. Analysts assess that there is no indication that the CCP will relax its suppression of human rights in the near future.
In 2021, the CCP has continued to ban Chinese people from discussing selected topics, and authorities can expand the scope of prohibited topics at any time. Topics restricted by the CCP range from the Covid pandemic, population crisis, Peng Shuai incident to topics already restricted by the CCP for many years, such as the suppression of democracy in Hong Kong, the oppression of the Uighurs in Xinjiang, persecution of Buddhism in Tibet, and the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.
The year 2021 is coming to an end, and the Chinese government has released the so-called draft “Cybernate Data Security Management Regulations” for public comments. The content of this draft shows that CCP continues to lock down Chinese internet users, their every move on the network is monitored by the government. In addition, the draft also stipulates that those who bypass the firewall to find information outside of China will be punished.
Talking to Voice of America, Jin Zhong, a senior communications expert from Hong Kong and editor-in-chief of “Open Net”, said that the CCP has limited or even deprived freedom of speech and people’s access to information.
Jin added, “This method is called dictatorship. The so-called dictatorship has a classic interpretation, which is that the power of the ruler is not limited by the law: it is above the law”.
Writer and human rights activist Sheng Xue said that in the past year, there have been too many cases of restriction and deprivation of the rights of the Chinese citizens. The CCP has extended its suppression of human rights over both the political and the non-political issues.
However, the world outside of China is showing that they have awakened from the CCP lies. they no longer believe what the CCP promises to do. There is more evidence after years of CCP suppression of human rights. Especially after the CCP has lied about the outbreak of the Covid pandemic, which has been causing great damage to the world.
A few days ago, the Chinese-language New York Times ran a report titled “Why China’s Story of Peng Shuai Can’t Convince the World”. The report said, “the Chinese government has become very effective at controlling the thoughts and speech of its 1.4 billion people in the country. But manipulating the rest of the world is another matter.”
The New York Times reported that, although Peng Shuai publicly accused the powerful former minister Zhang Gaoli of sexually assaulting her, the CCP’s media system had found enough ways to prove that the tennis star was safe and sound. Even so, this did not convince the international community. The New York Times assessed that the stupid response of the Chinese government did not convince the world. In addition, international news reported it as a textbook example, showing the incompetence of cover up by the CCP.
However, the Communist Party has great control inside their country. While the Peng Shuai case has become a widely discussed topic in the international community, the vast majority of Chinese people are unaware of Peng’s accusations that she was raped by the former Vice Premier of China.
The case of Peng Shuai is just one example. Observers point out that in China under the CCP rule, most people are unaware of the many major events that have occurred in the country related to their fundamental interests. They are not aware of how they were harmed by the CCP. On the contrary, they also have the illusion that they are living in “mellow years”, created by the CCP’s propaganda.
Some critics point out that, in fact, there are certainly Chinese people who are aware that they are victims of the CCP, but they cannot speak up, and have no safe platform to voice their opinion. Over time they gradually stayed silent for their own safety.
Jin Zhong believes that the future of the Chinese people will not change anytime soon, because the CCP will not relax the censorship of information, and this force still wants to continue to rule the people in the old way.
Sheng Xue believes that CCP has mastered the high-tech tools, and it is clear that this force has now become a difficult monster to deal with. She said that, perhaps in other countries, high technology is used to improve lives and serve people. But in China, high technology is mainly used by the CCP to control the population.
