A teenage crypto trader who boasted about his fortune on Instagram was fatally shot while driving his red Porsche Boxster.
As he drove through the Brazilian city of Sao Pedro da Aldeia, gunmen opened fire on 19-year-old Wesley Pessano Santarem.
Santarem is seen unmoving in the driver’s seat of his car, his white T-shirt saturated in blood, in chilling video footage shot in the aftermath of the broad-daylight shooting on Aug. 4.
There is an apparent bullet wound in his neck.
The assassination comes as gangs increasingly target so-called “Insta-bragging” bitcoin dealers and influencers who flaunt their money on social media.
Despite being only 19 years old, Santarem appears to have amassed a fortune as a cryptocurrency trader and investor over at least three years.
He boasted about his wealth and lavish lifestyle to his 133,000 Instagram followers and on a YouTube channel with 15,600 subscribers where he gave trading advice.
His most recent Instagram post showed him seated atop the red Porsche in which he was filmed, rummaging through wads of cash.
According to some local media, it was a case of mistaken identity.
The police have not revealed the killers’ identities or the possible motive for the crime.
