Former National Security Adviser John Bolton has joined with Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) among other American politicians to call for World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to resign, accusing the agency of helping China’s Communist Party cover up the CCP Virus pandemic.
“The @WHO is an accomplice to China’s massive coverup of Covid19. That’s why I support efforts by @marcorubio & @tedcruz pushing for resignation of WHO director general,” Bolton wrote in a tweet late Monday, April 6.
Bolton argued that Ghebreyesus “misled the world by blindly trusting a communist regime intent on deception.”

Bolton made his accusation just one day before the WHO would celebrate its 72nd anniversary on Tuesday.
Ghebreyesus has been under pressure to step down after the WHO leader failed to get public health information to the world while promoting misinformation and helping China’s Communist Party cover up a global pandemic.
According to Fox News, days after President Donald Trump in early February put in place a travel ban for foreign nationals who had recently been to China, Ghebreyesus panned coronavirus responses that “unnecessarily interfere with international travel and trade.”
Some American politicians are calling for the WHO director to face accountability for how his organization has performed during the CCP Virus pandemic.
“Once this pandemic is under control, WHO leadership should be held to account. That includes Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who has allowed Beijing to use the WHO to mislead the global community,” Rubio said. “At this moment, [Tedros] is either complicit or dangerously incompetent. Neither possibility bodes well for his future at the helm of this critical organization.”
A representative for Cruz said the Texas senator “believes that the WHO has lost the credibility necessary for it to be effective, and a re-evaluation of its leadership is urgently called for.”
In late March, Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) also called on Congress to hold a hearing and investigate the WHO’s role in helping China’s Communist Party cover up information regarding the threat of the CCP Virus.
“The @WHO receives millions of dollars in US taxpayer $$ and helped the Chinese Communist Party cover up a global pandemic,” Scott tweeted on March 31. “I’m calling for a Congressional investigation into what the WHO knew and when they knew it.”
The United States is the single largest contributor to the WHO, funding nearly $116 million per year for the organization, and also voluntarily giving between $100 million-$400 million more per year to its specific projects.
The CCP Virus outbreak, which began in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019, has now sickened 1.3 million people worldwide. In the United States, the virus pandemic has grown to more than 368,400 cases and killed nearly 11,000 by Tuesday.
