Upon noticing their daughter Zeynep Gunay, 19, was in distress, the family pleaded with fairgrounds operators to stop the ride, but they were allegedly ignored. As a result, the Turkish teen passed out and died tragically after choking on her vomit on the “Kamikaze” amusement park ride.

According to the Daily Mail, the bizarre incident occurred Monday afternoon, August 30, between 14:00 and 15:00 local time as psychology student Zeynep Gunay went to Istanbul’s Hayrola Luna Park to relax while awaiting exam results.

The 19-year-old is seen waiting for the “Kamikaze” ride to start in a CCTV photo wearing a white mask, grey hijab, and a light patterned jacket.

Gunay’s experience became tragic when she vomited and passed out when the pendulum-style attraction lifted off the ground.

Her parents claim that they urged the operators to halt the ride several times but were ignored. They also claim that Gunay was taken off in an unconscious state when the ride eventually stopped. The operators recommended Gunay be “slapped two or three times” to wake her up.

Moreover, Fatih Gunay, Gunay’s uncle, claimed that her family was also forced to call an ambulance because park workers neglected to do so.

Gunay was rushed to the hospital and later pronounced dead. She was buried at Beylikduzu, an Istanbul suburb.

Fatih blamed her death on negligence and swore that her family would do “whatever it takes” to pursue justice. Sadly, after Gunay’s death, it was later revealed that she had gotten the grades she needed to go into her desired university program, Haberler reported.

It’s unclear whether an official complaint has been filed with authorities or if police are looking into the Gunay family’s claims.
