President Donald J. Trump says Friday, September 20, that his administration is imposing further sanctions on Iran after last Saturday, September 14's attack on Saudi oil facilities.

The announcement is made in the Oval Office during the president’s meeting Prime Minister Scott Morrison and his wife Jennifer.

[Donald Trump, U.S. President]: "We have just sanctioned the Iranian National Bank. That is their central banking system and it's going to be at the highest level of sanctions. So that just took place and a couple of other things."

Also present is First Lady Melania Trump and U.S. Secretary of Treasury Steven Mnuchin, who states the sanctions have been executed.

[Steven Mnuchin, Secretary of Treasury]: "As you instructed me we are continuing the maximum pressure campaign. This is the last remaining source of funds about the central bank of Iran as well as the national development fund which is their sovereign wealth fund will be cut off from our banking system. So this will mean no more funds going to the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) or to fund terror. And this is on top of our oil sanctions and our financial institutions sanctions."

(0:55s) "This [is] very big. We've now cut off all sources of funds to Iran...(Reporter off camera: It goes all the way up to the very top?)... That does."

President Trump says Washington has “never done it to this level.”

[Donald Trump, U.S. President]:

"You'll be seeing certain things happening but a very major factor is what we did. These are the highest sanctions ever imposed on a country. We've never done it to this level. And it's too bad what's happening with Iran.
