Elijah Cummings, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, a pivitol figure at the center of the impeachment proceedings of President Trump has died, at the age of 68.

The African American lawmaker, who often clashed with the president, died “due to complications concerning longstanding health challenges,” his office said on Thursday, Oct. 17. He was admitted to Gilchrist Hospice Care, a Johns Hopkins affiliate where he died early on Thursday, according to a statement from his office.
