House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy says the Speaker of the House is "so embarrassed, she admits the failure of this impeachment that she will not even send it to the Senate."
McCarthy stated that the standard for ousting a president should be “overwhelming, compelling and bipartisan,” and lambasted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for launching the impeachment inquiry despite saying earlier this year that she wasn’t planning on trying to impeach the president.
His comments come Thursday after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi threw a bit of uncertainty into the process Wednesday night by declining to say when, or even whether, she would send the charges to the Senate.
President Donald Trump tweeted Thursday that the Senate should just go ahead and the Democrats “would lose by default,” but the trial cannot begin until the articles are delivered.
McCarthy said its embarrasing for Congress to have used the time only for the goal of impeaching the president
Democrats are accusing President Trump of abusing his presidential power during a July 25 call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to investigate political rival Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden while withholding aid as leverage.
But Democrats were unable to provide substantive evidence to prove wrongdoing by the president.
