YouTube star Grant Thompson, the self-proclaimed “King of Random,” died following a paragliding accident.
Thompson, whose experiments and hands-on science tips on his “King of Random” channel drew 11 million subscribers, was found dead Tuesday, July 30, after a paragliding incident.
He was 38.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Thompson’s body was recovered early on Tuesday morning after his family filed a missing person’s report when he didn’t return from a paragliding trip on Monday night. The Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue teams and a Life Flight helicopter were sent to an area narrowed down by a his cellphone’s GPS location.
He was found dead at the scene.
His verified Instagram account Tuesday stated, “It is with great sadness to inform everyone that Grant Thompson passed away last night.”

Thompson had recorded almost 2.5 billion views on his YouTube page since it was launched in January 2010, featuring “life hacks, experiments, and random weekend projects.”
