More than 100 friends and family members gathered in New York City for a unique party to celebrate a woman’s 107th birthday.
Born on July 31, 1912, Louise Jean Signore lives in New York’s Bronx and maintains a healthy diet and regular exercise. But she believes that the real reason she enjoyed over a century is that she never tied the knot.
The key to her long life, she says, is quite easy:
“Food and exercise and you have to have a system if you go to sleep at 11, don’t go to at 9 o’ clock, 2 o’clock, that’s not good,” she said.
“If they have exercise, I do the exercise. If they have dancing, I dance. I still do a little dancing. After my lunch, I will play bingo, so I had a full day,” Signore told CNN affiliate WCBS.
She also jokes that she may have contributed to her longevity by her choice never to marry.
“I think the secret of 107: I never got married. I think that’s the secret. My sister says, ‘I wish I never got married.’”
Even when she was in her 90s, every day at Orchard Beach, the only beach of the Bronx, Signore would swim.
She is also proud of her worldwide traveling.
“I was working for the (New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority), and in 1955, I took three months off and I went to Europe,” she said.
She spends a lot of time in a local senior center and loves dancing as well as an occasional glass of red wine.
She said she never had any major surgery and only once broke a bone.
She was one of four siblings— three of whom are still alive today, including her 102-year-old baby sister.
