While William Hester and his wife, Deborah, were crossing the intersection to an appointment at the VA McClellan Dental Clinic, a pickup truck approached them. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), it did not slow down or attempt to swerve to avoid the couple.

As soon as Hester saw an oncoming truck, he pushed his wife out of their way to safety. But he could not save his own life, he was hit shortly after and pronounced dead at the scene, according to investigators.

Investigators believe the suspect’s truck is a silver 2006-2011 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. It has some front-end damage to its right side.

Anyone who sees the truck associated with the hit-and-run, or has any other relevant information, is asked to contact CHP.
