A video taken at a Whataburger restaurant in Bastrop, Texas, showed a mouse jumping into a deep fryer as a Whataburger employee attempted to capture it.
Since the video was posted on Facebook by Brushawn Lewis just before 1 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1, it has been shared over 37,000 times and has attracted more than 100 comments.
The video shows one employee offering all customers their money back as the mouse dashed across a kitchen counter. Then, as another employee tries to trap the mouse under a container, the mouse scurries off the counter and lands in a fryer.
“I’ve seen it all,” Brushawn then said into the camera.
The Facebook page for Bastrop Whataburger location, 401 Texas 71, provided the following statement in the comments of his post:
“At Whataburger, cleanliness and food safety are top priorities for us. In this instance, we closed the restaurant out of an abundance of caution and notified pest control. The entire restaurant has since been cleaned and sanitized. We addressed this situation as quickly as possible, reinforcing procedures with our Family Members. While we’ll continue to be very diligent, it’s important to know there was no history of this type incident at this unit and there is no ongoing issue.”
