In Mexico, a pilot and his co-pilot died after their plane crashed into the sea during a gender reveal stunt.

On March 30, about 3.30 p.m., the plane crashed in the Nichupté Lagoon, off Cancun’s coast in Mexico’s south-east.

Guests on a nearby boat who were attending a couple’s gender reveal party captured the footage.

The plane—rented for the reveal from a company called Xomex—did stunts over their heads before the gender reveal.

The plane had done a variety of tricks, and the crowds erupted in laughter when a banner trailing the plane announced the baby’s gender.

“It’s all good as long as it doesn’t end up crashing into us,” one of the audience members joked.

As the plane nosedived into the water, the cheers soon turned to screams.

Frightened spectators cried out as the aircraft vanished beneath the waves, causing the person filming the stunt to say, “Surely this can’t be happening.”

According to local reports, emergency crews arrived on the scene and rescued the pilot and co-pilot from the water, but one died during the rescue, and the other was pronounced dead while receiving first aid on dry ground.

The federal civil aviation agency has initiated an investigation into the incident.

In recent years, several gender reveal parties bordering on the spectacular have gone wrong, with one causing millions of dollars in damage.

Last year, a pyrotechnic device used for a photo opportunity at a gender reveal party in California ignited a wildfire that burned over 7,000 acres of land.

According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Safety, the fire was ignited by a system that pumps out colored smoke.

Expectant parents sometimes use pyrotechnic devices to emit pink or blue smoke to show the gender of their new child to family and friends.

A record-breaking heatwave that was crippling the state exacerbated the burn.

Following that, the woman who claims to have launched the gender reveal movement pleaded with people to stop.

Jenna Karvunidis blasted the parents after finding that the devastating fire started during a gender reveal session.

The blogger wrote on her Facebook profile, High Gloss and Sauce: “Oh my god NO.

“The fire that evacuated parts of California is from a GENDER REVEAL PARTY.

“Stop it. Stop having these stupid parties. For the love of God, stop burning things down to tell everyone about your kid’s penis. No one cares but you.”
