A woman was charged with a felony after putting a hair tie around her dog’s mouth for days to keep her dog quiet for she could sleep.

A black Labrador-German Shepherd mix puppy, Shadow, 4-month-old, is a playful little ball of fire and barking is consistent with her outgoing spirit.

The rescue organization said that Shadow’s damage is so extensive. She was severely disfigured in nose mouth, with a deep scar all around.

Her previous owner, Alexis Callen in Murray, Utah, 19, had admitted that so she could sleep, she had wrapped a hair tie around Shadow’s mouth to keep it quiet.

She also told police that she left the hair tie on her for 48 hours, but vets believe it may have been on her for up to two weeks based on the damage.

Charged with a felony count of torture of a companion animal, Callen was arrested and taken to jail.

Animal control found out about Shadow when the rescue Celestial Zoo saw a post of Callen on Facebook, asking to “re-home” Shadow because Shadow was injured and Callen couldn’t afford vet bills.

Caylla Facemyer’s cousin Amber Facemyer saw the post and picked Shadow up. They took her to the vet and called the police.

Shadow can’t eat or drink properly due to a hole in her cheek from the damage. So the vet said that Shadow ‘ll take at least two weeks to heal after reconstruction surgery, but is expected to make a full recovery.
