The border crisis continues and the situation looks worse and worse. In 2021 there was a nearly 300 percent increase in the number of criminal migrants re-entering U.S. soil, Breitbart News reported.
Among those arrested are sex offenders, criminals and gang members who were once deported and sought to re-enter through the southern border.
During the fiscal year 2020, 2,438 criminal migrants were arrested and re-entered. As of August of this year, the number rose to 9,728, which represents almost a 300 percent increase, and it should be noted that September’s figures have not yet been reported.
It should be noted that 448 of those arrested during 2021 had convictions for sex crimes, a rather high number compared to 156 in 2020.
At the same time, 1,769 migrants detained by agents had outstanding warrants.
Some border agents shared the arrests they made on Twitter.
On Tuesday, Oct. 5, Border Patrol Chief Agent Sean L. McGoffin shared the arrest of 35 migrants who entered illegally through Texas. Agents at the Van Horn station were engaged in processing the migrants and detected that one of those arrested was a sex offender who had been previously deported. The Salvadoran national had been convicted by a U.S. court of felony second-degree rape, according to Border Patrol officials.
This offender has multiple deportations on his federal immigration record. He had last been removed from the country in November 2016 and was convicted by a federal court of illegal reentry after being deported as a convicted felon.
With this new re-entry, he faces new charges and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
This Wednesday, Yuma Sector Border Patrol Chief, Agent Chris T. Clem, shared on Twitter a photo of a criminal who had reentered the United States illegally.
The migrant was identified as Edward Antonio Gutierrez-Martinez and has first-degree felony convictions for child rape and incest. Agents turned the offender over to sheriff’s deputies to face prosecution.
The situation occurring at the southern border of the United States is of great concern to Republicans.
Yesterday, Republican governors released a 10-point proposal to end the border crisis, calling on the Biden administration to address the current influx of immigrants and change policies that they allege are fueling the high numbers.
“President Joe Biden has caused a humanitarian crisis and chaos on our border,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in Mission, Texas. He was there along with eight other governors, according to Fox News. “All Americans saw what happened in Del Rio Texas, just last month and we know that chaos will be repeated unless and until President Biden takes action.”
Republicans blamed the Biden administration for the surge because of the Trump-era policy backlash. Instead, the Biden administration blames root factors such as poverty, corruption and violence in Central America and the Trump administration’s closure of legitimate asylum avenues.
To end Biden’s border crisis, the governors released a 10-point plan.
