A Texas student was stabbed at Americas High School Thursday afternoon, Feb. 27.

El Paso police and Socorro Independent School District (SISD) police responded to the stabbing at about 1:38 p.m.

Police said the victims are doing well, KFOX14 reported.

SISD police said a fight broke out on the second floor of the school and resulted in one student being stabbed and another being injured.

According to KTSM, the victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries while a suspect was taken into custody.

” We had an incident where there were two individuals involved in an altercation, one of the students was hurt and based on the information we have, we had a second student who was trying to assist and also got hurt,” said Maribel Macias, assistant superintendent for Administrative Services with SISD.

The high school was immediately placed under a temporary lockout to ensure every student was accounted for and informed parents of the incident.

At this point, the lockout has been lifted. The school has begun its reunification process.
