Identical twin brothers in Minnesota had an unexpected surprise on Sept. 19 when both of their wives gave birth on the same day.

Pat Young and his wife, Ashley, welcomed a baby boy named Jack Todd Young at 6:01 p.m. at Hastings Regina Hospital. Just before midnight that same day, KARE reported, Paul Young and his wife, Felicia, also welcomed their own son named Cooper Kenneth Young at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury.

“I always kind of thought, or knew, it was a possibility,” said Paul, “but I didn’t expect it to happen.”

Initially, the babies were due roughly five days apart from each other. But the new cousins had other plans.

“I got a text from Pat saying, ‘Just letting you know we’re at the hospital,” Paul told KARE.

Pat laughs and adds, “And then he texted me back and said, ‘So are we.’”

Pat and Paul grew up as best buddies. They have plenty in common, including their occupations. Paul is a detective with the Hastings Police Department while Pat is a police officer in Cottage Grove.

Tammy Young, Paul and Pat’s mother, sits in a rooking chair, a grandson in each arm.

“Feels just like old times,” she said. “Thirty-one years later.”
