President Trump said that the purchase would mean a lot of jobs for Americans. “So, we just appreciate everything,” he said to Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

The president told White House reporters that Qatar hosts an impressive U.S. military base. “We have a great operation, military operation right now in Qatar. They built one of the great military bases, I would say, anywhere in the world,” said the president.

Then he continued, “And it’s just been expanded with runways,” saying “it’s been really a great honor to work with my friend.” President Trump thanked the emir for visiting the White House.

the sheikh in response thanked President Trump for his hospitality and reaffirmed what the president said.

“We enjoy a very great relationship between Qatar and the United States of America. We are doing a lot together,” said the emir who confirmed that the two leaders would be “signing a few documents” and that the economic partnership is more than US$185 billion.

“We’re planning to double this number,” said the emir who told White House reporter that Qatar has a lot of investments in the United States.

“We trust the economy here. We do a lot in the infrastructure and we are planning to do more investments,” continued the sheikh who confirmed hosting a military base.

The sheikh commended the close collaboration between Qatar and the United States, his personal friendship with President Trump and invited the president to visit Qatar and the military base.

During the Oval Office photo session, President Trump was asked about Labor Secretary Alex Acosta’s link with financier and registered sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The president told reporters that he would look carefully into Acosta’s link with Epstein, who is currently facing sex-trafficking charges in New York.

The president said he felt “very badly” for Acosta. “I can tell you that for two and a half years he’s been just an excellent secretary of labor. He’s done a fantastic job,” and has been “a very good secretary of labor” said President Trump.

The president told reporters that he “can only say this from what I know and what I do know is that he’s been a great, really great secretary of labor.”

“The rest of it we’ll have to look, we’ll have to look at it very carefully,” continued President Trump.

Acosta was a federal prosecutor in south Florida when he was involved in a 2008 plea allowing Epstein to evade prosecution on federal charges of molesting teenage girls.

However, Acosta’s link to Epstein is now under close scrutiny after federal prosecutors in New York filed similar sex charges on Monday against Epstein.
