President Trump said on Thursday, Sept. 12, that he did not watch Democratic presidential debate on Thursday night because he had to attend the House Republicans retreat in Baltimore but planned to record it and watch it as a “rerun.”
“It’s too bad I’m going to miss it. I’m going to have to have it somehow taped.”
“I’m going to have to watch it as a rerun,” he added.
Ten Democratic presidential contenders took the debate stage in Houston at 8 p.m. The three front-runners in polls are Former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).
When asked his expectations for the debate, Trump said, “I don’t expect too much difference.”
“You have three people that are leading, I sort of think that those three people are going to take it to the end. It’s going to be one of those three, I think. But you never know in politics,” he added.
Trump also said that he respected all the candidates on Thursday night’s debate.
“I respect all of them,” Trump said. “Let me tell you, it takes a lot of courage to run for office. I respect all of them.”
“See that? I’m getting to be much better as a politician, you never thought you’d hear that answer,” he added.
President Trump often tweets during the Democratic debates to criticize their policies and this time his campaign seemed to do more than that.
Earlier, ABC News reported that the Trump campaign has spent $7,500 to create an ad blitz that includes two full-page newspaper ads and flying a massive banner that blasts socialism just before Democratic presidential hopefuls take the stage.
The message on the banner ad says, “Socialism will kill Houston’s economy!” according to a rendering provided by a Trump campaign official.
In Baltimore, the president also criticized Democrats in his speech at the event.
“Whether you like me or not, it makes no difference because our country will go to hell if any of these people get in,” Trump said.
Trump said Republicans need to prevent Democrats from destroying the U.S. economy.
“We can’t let that happen. You won’t have energy. You won’t have business. You won’t have jobs. You won’t have income. It will be a disaster,” Trump said. “So you have to fight like hell.”
