President Donald Trump issued a proclamation on Jan. 18 declaring Jan. 22, 2021, as National Sanctity of Human Life Day, a title that celebrates the divine origin of every human being and rejects the legalization of abortion.
“Every human life is a gift to the world. Whether born or unborn, young or old, healthy or sick, every person is made in the holy image of God,” the president said. “ the Almighty Creator gives unique talents, beautiful dreams, and a great purpose to every person.”
“On National Sanctity of Human Life Day, we celebrate the wonder of human existence and renew our resolve to build a culture of life where every person of every age is protected, valued, and cherished,” the president wrote.
President Trump condemned the “constitutionally flawed” Supreme Court decision of 50 years ago in the fateful Roe v. Wade case that ended up legalizing abortion nationwide, prevailing over state laws that banned the procedure.
According to the proclamation, since then more than 50 million innocent lives have been lost through abortion.
But the president noted that there is a strong and determined pro-life movement in America made up of women, students, and people of faith that has driven changes in society and awakened the consciousness of many Americans.
“Over the last decade, the rate of abortions has steadily decreased, and today, more than three out of every four Americans support restrictions on abortion.”
Unfortunately, the Democratic agenda in Congress is headed in the opposite direction, pushing for the legalization of late-term abortions or, in other words, the removal of any restrictions on the procedure under the guise of “reproductive rights” or in the name of “women’s health.”
And because of that, President Trump moved to counter the falsehoods of abortion advocates by:
- Allocating funds to study the origin of Down Syndrome, one of the leading causes of abortion
- He took steps to improve the federal adoption and foster care system.
- Expanded health services for single mothers.
“We promise to celebrate and support every heroic mother who chooses life,” President Trump said. “And we resolve to defend the lives of every innocent and unborn child, each of whom can bring incredible love, joy, beauty, and grace to our Nation and the world.”
The president summarized his spiritual vision of what a nation needs to prosper: “When every person is treated as a beloved child of God, individuals will be able to reach their full potential, communities will flourish, and America will be a place of greater hope and freedom.”
It will be hard not to remember President Trump’s noble and righteous legacy that, until the end of his days in the White House, has brought prosperity to the United States and the world.
