In a tweet on Friday, July 10, President Trump called for a review of the status of schools and universities that receive public funds and/or are exempt from paying taxes, due to radical leftist ideological indoctrination.

“Too many Universities and School Systems are about Radical Left Indoctrination, not Education. Therefore, I am telling the Treasury Department to re-examine their Tax-Exempt Status … and/or Funding, which will be taken away if this Propaganda or Act Against Public Policy continues. Our children must be Educated, not Indoctrinated!” the president tweeted.

For a long time, many conservatives and Republicans have complained or denounced the continued censorship on both college campuses and in schools. The mere wearing of the MAGA hat has generated controversy, violence, slander, and accusations. Children in schools and college students cannot say aloud that they support President Trump, nor can they say that they are pro-life, or that they believe in God, all these American traditions are now attacked, censored, and there is usually a violent response from the opposite side. It is all the result of communist and socialist ideas taught under the guise of progressivism or identity politics, according to Jordan Perterson’s analysis for Prager U.

On Feb. 21, 2019, at Berkley University in California, Hayden Williams, a student member of Turning Point USA (a conservative organization) was severely beaten by another student when he ran a campaign under the slogan “False Hate Crimes Hurt Real Victims,” referring to the case of Jessie Smollet, a black actor who pretended to be attacked by two men wearing MAGA hats in the city of Chicago, according to Fox News.

In response to this incident, President Trump signed an executive order to “protect free speech on campuses” and actually shook Hayden’s hands at that year’s CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) for “taking a punch for all of us.”

On November 21, 2019 in Hamilton County, Florida, a 14-year-old boy was attacked by five classmates on the school bus for wearing a MAGA cap, according to Fox News. The video was made public and the attackers were charged with misdemeanor assault.

Some questioned President Trump’s claims, asking if math or science is far left, trying to argue that his comments were not supported. However, in the Obama era, praying was banned from schools, and instead children as young as 3 and 4 old years now attend seminars with drag queens who tell stories to instill gender ideology in children. Many of these drag queens are reported to be men with a history of child sexual abuse.

The president’s intention to reopen the schools has met with opposition from some unions such as the NEA (National Education Association) and the CDC guidelines whose requirements still target virtual classes or avoiding student crowding.

It is not clear what is the real scope or power of the president to proceed to change the status of these institutions or to cut off their funding, since many times they receive state or local district taxpayers funds, and not federal. But the initiative has already generated good reactions in its supporters’ base that sees this problem of leftist indoctrination as very serious and damaging to the Judeo-Christian values on which the country was founded, and that represented the Make America Great Again motto.
