The conservative group called the House Freedom Caucus has called on the Justice Department and Attorney General William Barr to clarify whether or not an investigation is being conducted into irregularities in the 2020 elections.
“There are concerns and sworn statements of fraudulent activity, criminal activity, in this statement, in this election, and they deserve to be investigated,” said Rep. Warren Davidson (R-Ohio) during a press conference outside the Capitol, according to the Daily Wire.
Davidson said the caucus represented millions of Americans who did not trust the election results, claiming it had nothing to do with the winner but with irregularities in the voting process.
“The Department of Justice exists to do that, to assure the American public that the country represents justice, that justice will be done,” Davidson added.
Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), president of the caucus, said, “We’re waiting for them to give us some kind of indicia they’re actually investigating the multiple allegations of the improprieties in this 2020 presidential election,” according to Newsmax.
The members of the House group are asking the Justice Department for “an open transparent view of all the records,” after Barr said he had not yet seen widespread fraud in the election.
“We want to call attention to our efforts to communicate to the Department of Justice and Attorney General Barr to have him include us in the information that he’s ostensibly, it appears to be anyway, that they’re investigating,” said Biggs.
“But we’ve seen no indicia of it and I’m not sure anyone in America has,” added Biggs.
Rep. Michael Cloud (R-Texas) wrote a letter, on Dec. 1, signed jointly by 16 members of Congress that was addressed to Barr asking him to make public the results of the investigation of the electoral fraud.
President Donald Trump rejected recent statements by Attorney General Barr, saying he has not yet done anything about the fraud because he has not yet investigated it.
“When he looks, he’ll see the kind of evidence that right now you are seeing in the Georgia Senate. … They are going through hearings right now in Georgia, and they are finding tremendous volumes [of vote fraud],” said President Trump.
“So, they haven’t looked very hard, which is a disappointment, to be honest with you, because it’s massive fraud,” he added.
Legislators who signed the letter to Barr also expressed concern about the Justice Department’s inaction.
