An EF0 tornado touched down Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 7, in Union County, New Jersey, according to the National Weather Service.
The tornado was spotted in Springfield near Route 22 and Springfield Avenue.
Officials said that the tornado had maximum wind speeds of 70 mph. This is at least the fifth tornado to touch down in New Jersey this year.

Witnesses told News 12 New Jersey that the roof of a neighboring business sustained damage and that debris damaged vehicles in the area.
The tornado emerged as powerful thunderstorms moving through New Jersey. Thousands across the state have already lost power.
