After being left in his parent’s vehicle for about 5 hours. The son of a Galveston Tex-Mex restaurant employee died on Saturday.
According to police, the 18-month-old boy’s father, Abner Pena arrived for work at Los Lazos Mexican restaurant, located at 6316 Stewart Road at around 11 a.m, and left the child in the car. The parent returned to the car at around 4:00 pm and found the child to be unresponsive.
Weather service records show that at the time the young child was found, the air temperature was 90 degrees in Galveston.
When first responders arrived, they immediately began treating the child. After they sent him to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
The boy was pronounced dead at UTMB Health John Sealy Hospital Trauma Center after all avenues of treatment were exhausted.
No charges have been filed against any member of the family as of this time. However, the investigation is still ongoing.
