About $170 million in government grants passed from the Tides Center to leftist organizations, including Black Lives Matter (BLM), over the past 17 years, according to fiscal reports.
The Tides Center is a nonprofit organization based in San Francisco that has become increasingly popular in recent years among private and state liberal donors as a center for redistributing funds to far-left causes and movements.
According to reports from Free Beacon, several radical left groups have been funded by Tides Center in recent years, including the popular BLM movement.
Tides Nexus began operations in 1976, and has since mobilized over $3 billion, according to reports on its own website. Most of that money came from private capital, but what is controversial is the exponential growth in government contributions, the product of U.S. citizens’ taxes, applied to ideological causes. Specifically, $170 million have been declared.
Tides Center was created in 1996 and is under the wing of Tides Nexus, which is made up of eight entities (Tides Foundation, Tides Center, Tides Network, Tides Advocacy, Tides Inc., Tides Two Rivers Fund, Tides Canada Foundation, and Harding Rock Fund) with diverse purposes ranging from fiscal sponsorship of progressive groups to legal advocacy work.
The Tides Foundation disbursed $291 million in grants during 2018, which primarily benefited outside leftist groups such as America Votes, Center for Community Change, Center for Popular Democracy, Indivisible Project, and Planned Parenthood, among others.
Democratic donors have given large amounts to Tides primarily through their own grant-making foundations. Thus Tides became a recipient of major left-wing grant-making foundations such as George Soros’s Open Society Foundations, the Ford Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, the WK Kellogg Foundation, and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
According to the Capital Research Center, BLM is one of the associations that has benefited the most from the Tides Foundation in recent times.
According to documents presented to the California Department of Justice on July 10, 2020, the Black Lives Global Network Foundation, the body that brings together the 16 BLM affiliates from the rest of the country, has become a project of the Tides Center, positioning BLM amid a political network of funding with revenues that exceed $600 million in 2018 according to records.
As has been demonstrated, leftist groups in the United States are being very well financed by different sectors, such is the case with Protect the Results, a network of protesters that brought together more than 80 anti-Trump groups, which has the objective of mobilizing millions of Americans in the event that Donald Trump wins the elections, denying his victory.
According to Breitbart, Protect the Results is an alliance financed by the left-wing billionaire Soros, which also receives donations from thousands of small and medium-sized donors.
