A Justice Department investigation found that Yale University illegally discriminates against white and Asian American applicants in violation of the 1964 Civil Rights Act while receiving millions of taxpayer dollars, the Daily Caller reported.
A two-year investigation concluded that Yale violated Title VI, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin in programs that receive taxpayer money, according to the Justice Department statement.
The investigation found that Yale used the applicants’ race specifically to determine eligibility. “Yale’s race discrimination imposes undue and unlawful penalties on racially disfavored applicants, including in particular Asian American and White applicants,” said the letter from Dr. Eric Dreiband, assistant attorney general for.
Asian American and white applicants are only one-tenth to one-quarter as likely to be admitted as African American applicants with comparable credentials.
The investigation was initiated in September 2018 over a complaint of racial discrimination in the university’s admissions process.
Yale President Peter Salovey told the Daily Caller that Yale does not discriminate against any group and affirmed its commitment to racial diversity.
This is not the first time Yale has come under scrutiny.
A Fox News article dated Feb. 12 lists Yale among one of the Ivy League schools that received millions in foreign funds for various programs from nations that are hostile to the United States.
Yale University received approximately $375 million from 2014 to 2017, mainly from the CCP and Saudi Arabia.
The CCP used “These talent programs seek to lure Chinese overseas talent and foreign experts to bring their knowledge and experience to China and reward individuals for stealing proprietary information,” the Justice Department press release said.
Nevertheless, “such money apparently does not reduce or otherwise offset American students’ tuition costs,” the document said, calling these institutions a “multibillion dollar, multinational enterprises using opaque foundations, foreign campuses, and other sophisticated legal structures to generate revenue.”
