U.S. Attorney General William Barr was on Mark Levin’s program on Sunday, Aug. 9, and they spoke about issues such as the demonization of the police force, how the Democratic Party has been devoured by the radical left which he called a “secular religion,” and the emergence of violence in demonstrations that with the help of the mainstream media have managed to hide it from the American people.
Mark Levin began the round of questions by talking about Barr’s recent hearing with the Congressional Judiciary Committee on the excessive use of police force, where Democrats made accusations of various kinds to Barr but did not let him answer.
Levin was struck by the complete disrespect and mistreatment of Barr and asked what he thought about it.
“I think they were afraid to have me speak. And so they decided to burn up all the time and not give me any time to answer. So I quickly caught on to the tactic,” Barr responded.
When asked by the Levin what he thought about the level of hostility between the different political parties, the attorney general said that compared to what it used to be 30 years ago, when he served as attorney general for George H.W. Bush, he had never seen anything like it. In his earlier days people could talk despite being in different political parties, because politics was just part of life, and it wasn’t as important as it is now.
Barr analyzed why the political family is so divided today, “Within the family we had two ways of resolving disputes: one is discussion … the marketplace of ideas, trying to arrive at the truth, we had the idea that there were some truth to arrive at. And then if we couldn’t reach an agreement there was the vote. That’s how we operated.”
Barr added, “Nowadays I think the left has withdrawn from this model and really represents a Rousseauian Revolutionary Party that believes in tearing down the system, that what’s wrong about America today all has to do with the institutions we have and we have to tear them down.”
Referring to the Democratic Party he said, “They are interested in complete political victory, they are not interested in compromise, they are not interested in dialectic, in the exchange of views, they are interested in total victory and that’s a secular religion, a substitute of religion, they view their political opponents as evil because we stand in the way of their progressive utopia that they’re trying to reach.”
This is the ideology that has devoured the Democratic Party, Levin added, and that is why none of the Democrats have condemned the violence of antifa and Black Lives Matters.
Barr said that some of the Democrats are “true believers” they are revolutionary, while others are cowards who fear the reaction of the left, want to be re-elected, and don’t want to be left without a career.
Mainstream media has played a very important role in pushing the narrative that the protests are peaceful. Barr said the media does not show the images of when protesters throw projectiles at police and have been lying to Americans.
Levin asked Barr if he was concerned about the way the police are treated by the same government officials to whom they report.
Barr said that being a police officer is getting harder and harder and to recruit the best people, you must show support for them.
Before the events in Minneapolis with the death of George Floyd, it was already hard to keep people on the force and there were many vacancies. After Floyd’s death, things got worse.
“Generally speaking, we have superb police in this country, very professional forces. And these events do happen, we have over 600,000 police in this country, and there are always some instances of excessive use of force but by and large it is an excellent police force. But if they are going to be demonized like this they are not going to work in these cities,” Barr explained.
The statistics support Barr’s statement. Ever since the movement to defund the police began and as a result some Democratic leaders actually reduced the police budget and even passed laws to completely dismantle it, crime has especially punished the low-income African American communities in cities like New York, Chicago, Seattle, and Portland.
Barr said he believes that “all black lives matter” and that that includes taking care of job opportunities, good education, and safety for the black community and these are issues that the Trump administration has successfully addressed.
