The body of a Texas man was found in his suburban Dallas apartment last week. A medical examiner determined that Ronald Wayne White had been dead in that apartment for about three years.

The 51-year-old White was found dead on the kitchen floor of his apartment by a staff of the DeSoto Town Center Apartments checking units not using water.

According to WFAA-TV, he was a Navy veteran who traveled the world working for a defense contractor.

His mom Doris Stevens, from Long Island, New York, said that White’d call her at least twice a month, regardless of where he was. The phone calls stopped three years ago and she couldn’t reach him on his birthday in April 2017.

Stevens became suspicious but her family didn’t have enough money to hire a private investigator.

DeSoto police said White had a month-to-month lease with his rent paid through an automatic withdrawal from an account linked to his Navy retirement. Investigators found medications for diabetes inside the apartment. They said Stevens confirmed to them that White was a diabetic.

White’s pickup truck was still in the public parking area of the DeSoto Town Center parking garage. It was covered in dust and apparently never reported as suspicious.

“It is sad to see that a veteran, a decorated veteran, had to go out like this,” said Ronald White’s friend and fellow Navy veteran Jerry Hannon.

A medical examiner is performing tests, including toxicology tests to determine a cause of death.
