Police in Denton say a toddler who was missing for 15 hours was found dead in the back of a car after an “extensive” search for him on Tuesday.
No suspects or charges were announced as the police chief in Denton, Texas, said at a Wednesday news conference that officials were still attempting to determine what occurred to the child, Sarbesh Gurung, and how he was wounded in the car.
His family is devastated and his mother is being treated for an undetermined medical condition. Police say when she was notified that she had a panic attack.
Dark windows and a sunshade of the car where Sarbesh was discovered, make it difficult to see inside.
“It’s not a time to point fingers; it’s not a time to assign blame,” he said. “It’s a time for us collectively to come together, grieve together and heal together.”
The boy’s mother informed police she put him down for a nap and he was gone when she went to check him out.
She searched for him for about four minutes before calling 911.
More than 200 people turned out to help with the search.
Police searched dumpsters, manholes, and went door-to-door before the child was found.
