A man was shot and killed at his north Harris County home Friday, Aug. 23, by a fired employee, sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies arrested Jatraveous Williams, 22, in connection with the death of his boss, 56-year-old Leonard John Ruffer.

Friday afternoon, Precinct 4 deputies responded to Ruffer’s home in reference to a shooting. When they went inside the home, they found Ruffer dead.

Ruffer owned a floor installation business, and had fired Williams earlier that day.

Deputies were notified during the investigation that Williams—who was known to carry a pistol and was out on bond for aggravated assault—was at a family member’s home in east Houston.

While a family member attempted to bring Williams into the sheriff’s office to be interviewed, Williams became anxious and pulled out a pistol. The family member pulled into a gas station in the 2000 block of Runnels and called police.

Houston police and sheriff deputies from Precinct 4 and 6 engaged in a 90-minute standoff with Williams, before he surrendered and was taken into custody.

Williams is expected to be charged with murder for the shooting.
