A Texas teenager was charged with capital murder after police said he confessed to killing his older sister, who was eight months pregnant, because she was an “embarrassment to their family.”
Eduardo Arevalo, 19, confessed to strangling his sister Viridiana Arevalo, 23, when they were alone in the family home on Monday, Dec. 16, CBS DFW reported.
Their oldest brother, Diego Arevalo, said his sister, who had depression, had a lot of love in her heart and that she was looking forward to having a baby girl.
“She was super excited. She always wanted a sister. She was the only sister in the family. She always wanted a little sister, but it never happened,” Diego Arevalo said.
Investigators said Eduardo told them he dumped her body in an alley early Sunday morning, Dec. 22, after retrieving it from its initial burial site an hour north from The Colony.
“The only reason he gave for killing her was that she was an embarrassment to their family, and he stated it would be better off that she wasn’t here,” Sgt. Aaron Woodard with The Colony Police Department said.
A suicide note was also found in the home and then Eduardo claimed responsibility for the note.
“He later confessed to having written the note, and all the information we have is that it was implied she wrote the note,” Woodard said.
Diego said the family was devastated. He does not believe his brother would have killed their sister.
“Seeing my parents sad and emotional really breaks my heart,” he said.
Eduardo was being held in The Colony Jail with bail set at $1.05 million, the Dallas Morning News reported.
