A 32-year-old Texas teacher was fired and arrested Friday, Nov. 8, after a video showing her allegedly fighting with a female student surfaced online.

The incident happened in a foreign language class at Lehman High School in Kyle, Texas, according to CBS Austin.

A substitute teacher for Hays CISD, Tiffani Shadell Lankford, became agitated when the students were laughing as she was passing out papers, a student in the class said, KVUE reported.

“The student said ‘shut up’ back. She said, ‘No, you shut up,’ and the teacher got in the student’s face and put her hand on her chest and her other hand on her arm,” the student said. “The student swung, because she was in her face and pressing her. The teacher put down her glasses–she swung like three times, pulled her to the ground and stomped on her head.”

The victim’s family said that their daughter has seizures and is considered a special needs student, KVUE reported.

An attorney for the family, Paul Batrice, said she is being treated for severe injuries at a local hospital after the attack.

Lankford was arrested on-site after the incident and charged with second-degree felony aggravated assault.

According to Hays CISD, Lankford attended her teacher orientation on Aug. 30, 2019. The district said her first job in the classroom was on Sept. 13 and worked in a classroom a total of 18 times.
