Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect wanted in the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl while she was checking mail at a northwest Houston apartment complex on Aug. 31.

The incident happened around 1 p.m. in the 6200 block of Antoine Drive, Houston, Texas, according to KHOU. The suspect was described as a black male with a thin build and facial hair, he was wearing a gray and blue tank top, long pants, and black open-toed shoes.

Houston Police Department detective Vanessa Garcia said during Monday’s press conference that the girl was waiting on mail in a common area of her apartment building. The man entered the apartment complex and paced around the area near the mailboxes, where the victim was waiting for the mail. Investigators believed he may have been watching her for a while before attacking her, according to ABC 13.

“The male was watching her and had been watching her for a while. When she was alone, he saw the opportunity to grab her and brutally sexually assault her,” Garcia said.

The suspect then fled the scene heading south on Antoine Drive. The victim was transported to an area hospital to be treated for injuries sustained during the assault.

“I do believe, based on the facts, that he is a member of the community,” Garcia said. “He was very bold to sexually assault her at 1 p.m. when people were walking by. Someone could have seen something.”

Anyone with information on the identity and whereabouts of the wanted suspect is urged to contact the HPD Special Victims Division at 713-308-1100 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
