A Texas company, Soulshine Industries designed a custom casket, which was adorned in pink with the image of Minnie Mouse for 5-year-old Sierra Patino’s burial after the girl’s family reached out.
On Monday, the company posted images of the casket to its Facebook page, wrote: “We had the privilege of creating her casket in a Minnie Mouse themed which she loved. You can see her light shined through the design and may it shine on for eternity. Sending all of our love and prayers to her loved ones. #JusticeforSierra.”
According to police, Sierra Patino’s body was discovered in a closet on Labor day. Officers were called to Priscilla Nicole Torres’s apartment about 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, after the child’s grandmother made the discovery.
Prosecutors said Torres claimed her daughter died from ingesting chemicals on Aug. 27.
But according to court documents, Torres said her boyfriend, Santiago Esparza, 30, gave Patino a bath on Aug. 23. When Torres opened the door, she noticed burns on the little girl’s body and a possible bruise on her forehead.
Torres said Esparza told her it was an accident. A few days later, Patino vomited, lost consciousness and died, court documents state.
Torres and Esparza both face charges of felony tampering with evidence in connection with the death of Torres’s daughter, Sierra. Both remain in jail.
