As we look to close out 2019 devastating news comes out of White Settlement, Texas. A Sunday morning shooting that left two dead and one in critical condition in the hospital. The suspect was shot by churchgoers according to authorities.
It happened just before 10 in the morning at West Freeway Church of Christ. Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman Mike Drivdahl said the Fort Worth police and fire departments were at the scene assisting White Settlement authorities. white Settlement is about 8 miles west of Fort Worth.
White Settlement police were called to the scene after there were reports of gunfire and people injured.
MedStar Mobile Health spokeswoman Macara Trusty confirmed that two people died at the hospital and a third shooting victim is in critical condition in the hospital. Two other people were treated for minor injuries sustained when they were hiding from the shooter and released.
The names of the dead and wounded have not been released.
White Settlement Police Chief J.P. Bevering said the Texas Department of Public Safety will lead the investigation into the shooting.
Matthew DeSarno, special agent in charge of the FBI Dallas office, said the FBI is standing by to help in any way. “We are working very hard to find motive to get to the bottom of what happened,” DeSarno said. “As you see from the group assembled behind me, an incident like this does not get solved and we don’t get to the bottom of it without significant partnership.”
Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn said Sunday was “a horrific day in Tarrant County.”
“Today evil walked boldly among us,” he said. “But let me remind you, good people raised up and stopped it before it got worse.”
White Settlement and Fort Worth officers are currently at the scene speaking to witnesses and gathering information trying to find a motive.
