A liquor store clerk in Bakersfield, California, ended up stopping a robbery attempt and opened fire on two armed robbers on Wednesday night, Sept. 18, according to authorities.

Kern County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) deputies said two suspects in masks, one of which had a shotgun with him, entered Columbus Market on Alta Vista Drive at about 8:20 p.m.

The store employee grabbed the shotgun in an attempt to pull it away from the suspect, according to authorities. A struggle for it ensued, but the clerk ended up pulling out his own handgun and fired a shot at the suspects.

The clerk suffered minor injuries.

It is unknown if either of the suspects were hit by the shot, KCSO said. They had already fled when the deputies arrived.

KCSO is asking for the public’s help in identifying the two robbery suspects.

Anyone with information about their whereabouts is urged to call KCSO at 661-861-3110.
