A Georgia special education teacher faced a felony charge of cruelty to children after she allegedly made a boy who had defecated in his pants sit in his own waste for hours.
Kelly Lewis, 56, is a teacher at Frey Elementary School. According to an arrest warrant, Lewis knew her 5-year-old student defecated on himself but made him sit in his soiled clothes for about two hours, stating she was “going to prove a point” about restroom habits.
“Said child did suffer redness and irritation to his buttocks as well as mental pain as a result of the teachers actions,” according to the arrest warrant.
The incident happened on Nov. 21, but until Wednesday, Dec. 4, she was booked into the Cobb County Jail. She was released after posting on about $5,000 bond.
Lewis was charged with one count of cruelty to children in the second degree, WSB-TV reported.
The warrant states the child suffered mental pain and physical discomfort from Lewis’s actions.
The parents were notified and Lewis was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, according to the school system.
