Simone Biles gained attention on social media during the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo when she withdrew from the competition. She went into great detail about “the twisties,” describing how she had lost confidence in her ability to predict what her body would do in mid-air. It’s not the first time Biles dealt with the problem, and she said the issues had followed her to uneven bars and beam.
However, many did not believe her excuse, and Biles has been a target of criticism.
Now, a month after the games, Biles aimed at her critics in an Instagram post on Saturday, Sept. 4, pointing out that she is now one of the most decorated gymnasts in history, Breitbart reported.
“I’m proud of myself and the career I’ve had thus far,” Biles wrote. “This Olympics doesn’t erase the past accomplishments i’ve achieved nor does it define who I am as an athlete. I’ve pushed through so so much the past couple years, the word quitter is not in my vocabulary.”
She then fires back at critics who called her a quitter, saying, “For some of you that may be how you define me but keep talking because I can’t hear you over my 7 olympic medals which tied me for the most decorated gymnast EVER as well as most decorated american gymnast.”
After withdrawing from two events in August, Biles returned to compete and earned bronze in the balance beam event. It was Biles’ seventh Olympic medal, tying her with Shannon Miller for the most Olympic medals won by a US gymnast.
