A registered sex offender was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Monday, Nov. 4, after pleading no contest to sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl at a playground in Torrance’s elementary school, officials said.

Dalan Anthony Johnson, 32, of Torrance, pleaded guilty to one charge of a forcible lewd act on a child under the age of 14 and admitted the assault occurred during a second-degree burglary, the Los Angeles County attorney’s office said.

Johnson was on parole and still wearing an ankle bracelet when he walked on March 28 to the Lincoln Elementary School campus and attacked the child, prosecutors said.

The Torrance Police Department said at the time, the child told her parents, who reported the incident to the school district.

Officers reviewed surveillance footage and, according to police, spotted Johnson walking across the campus less than a minute before the sex crime was committed.

He was arrested in the Harbor Gateway area a day later, Torrance police said.

According to prosecutors and the Megan’s Law website, Johnson was previously convicted of a lewd act on a child under 14 in 2015, then of indecent exposure with a similar lewd act conviction in 2016.
