On Wednesday, July 22, Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.)l spoke on the Fox News “Rundown” podcast and gave his opinion on the measures taken to contain the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) Virus, according to Fox News.

The senator said that the lockdown has crippled the economy and has done little to slow the spread of the virus.

As different states take different approaches, some have relaxed restrictions and others continue with tighter ones, Paul is analyzing the measures based on how the virus has responded in those places.

For example, Florida and Texas have reopened their economies and cases have increased, while on Monday, July 20, was the first day that New York, which has also relaxed restrictions, reported no deaths from the CCP Virus since the pandemic began in March, according to a New York Post article

“We’ve seen surges in coronaviruses in the midst of lockdown. New York had a lockdown and had 30,000 people die. New York had the worst death rate of any place in the world amid a lockdown so perhaps a lockdown didn’t do any good and perhaps a lockdown killed our economy, but didn’t do anything to stem the tide of the virus. So I see nothing to be admired in New York’s lockdown.” Paul said.

Paul said the virus, for people over 45, is more deadly than a seasonal flu but under 45, it is less deadly. That’s why he suggested focusing care on the elderly, not the low-risk population. Steps must be taken to protect this group of people, but not cripple the economy.

Paul made a very interesting analogy, “We typically have among us tens of thousands of people who are on chemotherapy, but we don’t tell the whole country to wear masks because you might give a virus to people who are in chemotherapy. What we do is people on chemotherapy try to be very cautious, to stay away from children with infectious diseases or others who might transmit it, but we don’t shut the entire economy down, even though there are tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people with depressed immune systems.”

Paul continued with the example of New York, saying that the lockdown did not work in New York, but over time, residents there achieved a level of immunity to the virus and contagion and death stabilized, similar to Sweden, which did not close the country or implement quarantine measures.

There have also been some reports from Italian doctors who have come to the same conclusion, the virus has weakened and is not as strong as before, which is similar to Paul’s analysis, once the immune system generates the antibodies, the disease is no longer as lethal as before.
