Hunter Biden and Hallie Biden, the wife of Hunter Biden’s deceased brother, Beau Biden, were involved in a firearms-related incident in 2018, according to POLITICO.
Hallie Biden found a .38 revolver pistol in Hunter Biden’s pick-up truck on October 23, 2018. Hallie wrapped the gun in plastic and tossed it in their local grocery store trash can, apparently fearful that Hunter would hurt himself with it.
Hallie told Hunter the gun was in the trash. Hunter told her to get the gun back, but the weapon was gone when she looked.
Concerns that the gun could be used in a crime prompted Delaware State Police and the FBI to investigate the incident.
The FBI questioned Hunter about his drug and alcohol use. Hunter denied it, saying Hallie was worried he was going to kill himself.
“Listen, it isn’t like that. I think she believes I was gonna kill myself,” Hunter told the authorities, according to the report.
Hunter is also said to have told the FBI that he used the gun for target practice.
Agents from the Secret Service then went to the shop where Hunter bought the gun and demanded documents proving his ownership.
The store owner declined to hand over the documents.
“The gun store owner refused to supply the paperwork, suspecting that the Secret Service officers wanted to hide Hunter’s ownership of the missing gun in case it were to be involved in a crime, the two people said,” POLITICO reported.
“The owner, Ron Palmieri, later turned over the papers to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, which oversees federal gun laws.”
POLITICO obtained a copy of the Firearms Transaction Record as well as a receipt for the gun, all dated Oct. 12, 2018.
“Hunter responded ‘no’ to a question on the transaction record that asks, ‘Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?’ according to POLITICO.
POLITICO also mentioned that Hunter was discharged from the Navy Reserve five years earlier after testing positive for cocaine. He and his family members have discussed his past substance abuse.
Lying on a form is a crime punishable by up to ten years in jail and a fine of $250,000.
A man who frequently rummaged through the store’s garbage bins looking for recyclables is said to have returned the gun days later.
According to POLITICO, there have been no charges or arrests.
The FBI was watching Hunter at the time as part of a tax-related investigation.
The Secret Service maintains it has no records of its agents investigating the incident, and the White House claims Joe Biden was unaware of the Secret Service’s involvement, according to POLITICO.
“President Biden did not have any knowledge of, or involvement in, the Secret Service’s alleged role in this incident, and neither he nor any family member was a protectee at that time.”
