Dallas Police arrested 19-year-old Davonte Benton on Thursday, Sept. 5, and charged him with capital murder in the tragic murder of a 9-year-old girl in Old East Dallas last month, according to The Dallas News.

The first suspect arrested,19-year-old Tyrese Simmons, turned himself into police the day after the shooting.

Brandoniya Bennett was killed on Aug. 14 while playing inside her family’s Old East Dallas apartment. Police believe that Simmons and Benton mistakenly killed Brandoniya after they had the wrong address for their intended target, a rival rapper with whom Simmons had been feuding with on Instagram.

“She was sitting in her house. “She felt safe,” Dallas police Maj. Danny Williams said.

Simmons remains in the Dallas County Jail on a charge of capital murder.

Benton faces a capital murder charge and was being held in Dallas County Jail on a $500,000 bail.
