A search warrant of the former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani’s apartment and office was executed on Wednesday morning, a decision promoted from a year-long investigation into his relationship with Ukraine.
Giuliani’s electronic devices including laptops and cellphones were seized during the FBI’s probe, FoxNews.
Giuliani, former NYC mayor, was former President Donald Trump’s personal attorney, and federal investigators have targeted him for at least three years for the potential crime of lobbying the Trump administration for Ukrainian officials and oligarchs.
The Ukrainian authorities were also accused of assisting Giuliani in gathering information on Trump’s political opponents, including then-Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his son Hunter by investigating the younger Biden’s energy company Burisma Holdings.
According to Giuliani’s attorney Robert Costello, prosecutors were also examining the involvement of political columnist John Solomon when he contacted the former NYC mayor over the effort.
Costello added that one of the items confiscated was a computer that belonged to Giuliani’s longtime assistant Jo Ann Zafonte, who has also been summoned to testify before a federal grand jury in May.
“This is totally unnecessary,” said Costello, who believed the former NYC mayor was innocent.
“They’re trying to make Rudy Giuliani look like a criminal,” he told Fox News.
Costello told the Wall Street Journal that the investigation team ignored his offer for inquiry on the condition that they would provide detail on the subject of their probe.
“It’s like I’m talking to a wall,” he said.
Andrew Giuliani, the former mayor’s son, was furious with the search warrant.
“This is disgusting. This is absolutely absurd,” said the younger Giuliani, who stood outside of his father’s Big Apple home later that afternoon and delivered his messages to reporters.
“I am speaking as a son and a concerned American—anybody, any American, whether you are red or blue, should be extremely disturbed by what happened here today by the continued politicization of the Justice Department,” he stated.
The search warrant can only be executed if granted permission from the Justice Department.
“It is the continued politicization of the Justice Department that we have seen and it has to stop– if this can happen to the former president’s lawyer, this can happen to anyone,” said Giuliani junior.
He also declared that the attention from the department should have been aimed at Hunter Biden, who has been swamped with scandals over the content of his disturbing laptop.
“The only piece of evidence that they did not take up there today was the only incriminating evidence that is in there and it does not belong to my father. It belongs to the current president’s son.”
Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman, two of Giuliani’s associates, have also been convicted of campaign finance violations for channeling international funds to several U.S campaigns for power over candidates.
