Colorado Rep. Ken Buck (R) has sent a letter to Attorney General William Barr asking the Department of Justice to appoint a special attorney to investigate Hunter Biden, son of former Vice President Joe Biden, focusing on his conduct and laptop computer hard drive content.
According to The Blaze, the lawmaker said an investigation of the special prosecutor was appropriate to maintain confidence in Homeland Security.
“This investigation is critical to defending the integrity of our republic and ensuring a potential Biden Administration will not be the subject of undue foreign interference,” Buck said.
“Americans have the right to know whether Mr. Biden’s reported ties to foreign governments will make him the subject of blackmail attempts or other nefarious efforts to undermine U.S. national security or otherwise improperly influence American foreign policy,” the representative added.
For Buck, the need for a special prosecutor to initiate the investigation is comparable to Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller was tasked with leading a special investigation into the discredited Russian interference.
“Similar to when the DOJ appointed Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III, it is critical that this investigation continue free from political interference, no matter who is in the White House. We must guarantee the integrity of our government and the security of our republic,” the congressman said.
According to the New York Post (NYP), special attorneys can operate without the threat of being fired from the White House because they are protected by federal regulation.
The NYP made public an explosive story in mid-October regarding the possession of a laptop hard drive that Hunter had apparently dropped off at a repair shop in Delaware in 2019 and never picked up.
It ended up in the hands of FBI agents for unknown reasons.
The information collected on the disk also revealed several controversial emails in which Hunter Biden’s business connections with Ukrainian and Chinese companies were revealed. At the same time, his father was Vice President during the Obama administration.
While he has emphatically denied any information linking him to his family’s dubious business dealings abroad while he was vice president, his presidential campaign has not questioned the authenticity of those emails either.
As The Blaze points out, in the face of Hunter’s computer evidence, the Democrats claimed that this was “Russian disinformation” aimed at interfering in the election to favor President Trump.
So far, Hunter has not faced a criminal investigation. However, Republicans in Congress have been tracking his business in Ukraine, where he was a board member of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma and earned a monthly salary of $83,000.
According to the New York Post, the former vice president’s son also established a $1.5 billion private equity firm in 2013 with the help of the state-owned China Bank just days after flying with his father on Air Force Two direct to China.
