Nearly forty House Republicans, clearly enraged by the new mask mandate imposed inside the Capitol, staged a peculiar protest on Thursday 29th, showing their indignation by entering the building without wearing a mask, crossing the entire building, and walking into the chamber in disregard of the obligation to wear one.

Republicans who participated in the protest said the policy pushed by the Capitol Hill doctor and backed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other House Democrats are inconsistent, infringes on personal liberty, and is based on politics rather than science, The Hill reported.

During a press conference Thursday, House Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy denounced the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for allegedly controlling “every element of our lives” and Pelosi for enforcing the latest mandate. At the same time, the Senate maintains the freedom to rule without a mask.

Hours earlier on his Twitter account, McCarthy had posted on his Twitter account that, “President Biden’s CDC can’t make up its mind. One mask. Two masks. No masks. Back to one mask. Their new guidance for vaccinated individuals to wear a mask is based exclusively on a study FROM INDIA—which has NOT passed peer review—using vaccines that are NOT APPROVED in the US.”

The protest occurred on the same day that U.S. Capitol Police said congressional aides and visitors could be arrested if they refuse to wear a mask on the House side of the Capitol complex, including the Rayburn, Longworth, and Cannon office buildings. As far as was known, none of the Republicans who rebelled against the mandate were jailed.

Rep. Chip Roy allegedly, during an internal Republican meeting, rebuked McCarthy regarding the “new Capitol Police bulletin suggesting that congressional staffers and visitors could be arrested” for violating the mask rule, Politico reported. “This is nonsense. We need to lead,” Roy said.

Among the Republicans participating in the protest were Reps: Lauren Boebert, Matt Gaetz, Byron Donalds, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Chip Roy, Louie Gohmert, Madison Cawthorn, Warren Davidson, and Freedom Caucus Chairman Andy Biggs (Ariz.).

Anger over the mandatory mask requirement increased considerably when representatives learned that on the Senate floor, unlike the House, the medical officer does not require mandatory mask use.

“House Republicans are protesting the mask mandate by walking to the Senate, where masks are not mandated by Capitol physicians,” said Republican Rep. Scott Wong.

Republican Rep. Barry Loudermilk said in a dialogue with The Hill. “So what are we doing: following the science or Pelosi’s political moves? It’s Pelosi’s political moves,” he asserted.

Also, Thursday, President Joe Biden said all federal workers will now be required to verify that they have been vaccinated against the CCP virus or wear masks and be tested weekly.

“It’s a pandemic of unvaccinated,” Biden said at the White House. “People are dying who don’t have to die.”
