Devin Nunes, U.S. Representative for California’s 22nd congressional district, warns that U.S. companies are being manipulated into sharing key technologies with China to ‘collaborate’ with the Chinese Communist Party to carry out its anti-American agenda.

The Republican revealed on Sunday, June 27, during an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” that Beijing has launched a “campaign of malign influence across a wide range of U.S. economic sectors.”

Nunes said that in an investigation he conducted with his Republican colleagues on the House Intelligence Committee, they discovered that the Chinese regime is manipulating and coercing U.S. companies, including in the pharmaceutical, manufacturing, agriculture, entertainment, media, finance, sports, and technology sectors.

Nike, for example, made headlines this week for controversial statements by its CEO, John Donahoe, who openly stated that his company is “from China and for China.”

The controversial statement came as he defended the trainer company’s business in China, despite the company previously claiming to be “concerned” about reports of forced labor camps in the Xinjiang area, where many prisoners of conscience and faith, mainly Uighurs and practitioners of the Falun Dafa spiritual discipline, are forced to work in inhumane conditions.

The CEO’s comments came amid accusations that Nike, Disney, and other US companies with strong operations in China have become complacent and have turned a blind eye to human rights abuses by the Chinese Communist Party.

According to a background document on the Republican intelligence investigation obtained by Breitbart, “American business writ large is entangled in this effort, wittingly and unwittingly.”

The document further mentions that the CCP has embarked on ambitious plans to acquire certain key technologies to become the world’s dominant economic and military power in the near future, citing the “Made in China 2025” plan, which outlines its goals of mastering certain critical technologies by that year.

For example, according to the investigation, the Chinese communist regime will threaten to cancel contracts with U.S. companies and block access to Chinese markets to suppress negative comments about China by employees or executives.

Even in its effort to shape perceptions of China and influence U.S. government decisions at the local, state, and federal levels to benefit Beijing, the Chinese regime will similarly threaten media organizations and entertainment companies.

The investigation, which is still ongoing, is one of the multiple efforts by Republicans in the House and Senate to confront communist China in its attempt to undermine the US, which has met little or no resistance from the Biden administration.

In this regard, as reported by Real Clear Politics, Republican Representative Nunes said: “I think this is a really important investigation. It’s something we have been building to for a long time. And I think it’s going to be fairly illuminating for the American people.”

He added: “… the challenge here is, is, we have to ask ourselves, why are the Democrats not participating in this? We have been running this China investigation essentially by ourself for a decade, and they continue to ignore it.”
